Travis and Annie drift into 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), where the dialogue is sparse, the silences are expensive, and the giant black rectangle somehow ends up doing most of the talking. As they bring their tour of the 1960s to a close, they admire Kubrick's meticulous craftsmanship, reflect on a film that reshaped science fiction, and discover that appreciating a movie and fully understanding it are not always the same thing. It's mesmerizing, maddening, influential, and completely unconcerned with whether you're keeping up.
