Today's guest is Gregg Owen, a former homicide prosecutor with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office in Chicago. During one of the most violent periods in the city's history, Gregg prosecuted more than sixty murder cases and later became Illinois' first Chief of the Gang Prosecutions Unit. Along the way, he witnessed not only violent crime, but also the corruption, witness intimidation, and courtroom politics that most people never see.
Before entering the courtroom, Gregg lived a completely different life as a touring rock musician, opening for legendary acts before ultimately finding his calling in the pursuit of justice. That unique journey gives him a perspective few prosecutors have.
His latest book, Convergence, tells the true story of a double homicide investigation from the prosecution's point of view, taking readers behind the scenes of what it really takes to bring a murder case to trial when witnesses disappear, fear takes over, and corruption threatens justice.
