What does an undefeated MMA fighter know about construction technology?

A lot more than you might think.

Morgan Drivas has taken one of the more unconventional paths into the built environment. After going 5–0 as an amateur MMA fighter and training alongside some of the best in the sport, Morgan made the difficult decision to walk away from fighting and pursue a completely different future.

That decision eventually led her into BIM, VDC, innovation, and reality capture—and today, Morgan serves as VDC & Innovation Manager at JTM Construction, where she's spent a decade working in VDC and is now helping expand the company's reality capture capabilities.

In this episode of the Matthew Byrd Podcast, Morgan and Matt dig into the unexpected turns that shaped her career, what fighting taught her about discipline and strategy, and why there isn't always a clear blueprint for building a meaningful career.

They also explore the evolving role of reality capture and VDC, the importance of building a personal brand, navigating career and family, and what the rise of AI could mean for the next generation of professionals.

Morgan's story is a great reminder that your most valuable experience may come from the places that have nothing to do with your job title.

If you're building a career in construction technology, reality capture, VDC—or simply trying to figure out what your next move should be—this conversation is for you.
