The Body Isn't Just Keeping Score, It's Predicting the Next One w/ Jessica Maguire Mphysio | Ep #113

Dela

Jessica Maguire is back at The Provider's Table and this time we go deep. Jessica is a physiotherapist, vagus nerve researcher, and TED speaker who has taught over 20,000 students how the nervous system actually works. She recently ran her Nervous System Certification Course and now leads Impact, her graduate community for coaches and clinicians.

In this conversation we get past the surface-level "regulate your nervous system" talk and into the mechanics: What neuroplasticity actually requires, why predictive processing not just past trauma, drives chronic conditions, and why so many practitioners (us included) get stuck offering good intentions instead of specific interventions.

We talk about:

  • Why "the body keeps the score" is only half the story — and what predictive processing adds to it
  • The difference between bottom-up and top-down nervous system work, and why chronic conditions usually need both
  • Interoception and emotional granularity, why clients can't regulate what they can't feel or name
  • Co-regulation, boundaries, and the empathetic distress every practitioner risks if they skip their own nervous system work
  • How early developmental experience programs the body's baseline predictions
  • Jessica's approach to assessment, including subjective and objective interoceptive measures

If you're a provider, coach, or clinician doing nervous system work, or you're the one who's been doing "the work" and still feels stuck this episode gives you the specificity most conversations about healing skip.
