The BioMonitor4CAP project focuses on innovative biodiversity monitoring in agricultural landscapes, combining established indicator systems with new technological approaches. But reliable data are only the first step. To make biodiversity-friendly farming work in practice, scientific evidence needs to be connected with farm management, incentives and agricultural policy.
In Episode 4, we follow the path from science to policy and explore how biodiversity is integrated into the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Together with Antonia Lütteken from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, Vitaliy Krupin from IRWIR PAN discusses what biodiversity policy needs to achieve, how biodiversity can be measured at farm and landscape level, and what can help farmers adopt biodiversity-friendly practices.
In this episode Vitaliy Krupin from the project partner IRWiR PAN – Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development at the Polish Academy of Sciences, and our guest Antonia Lütteken from the European Commission, DG Agriculture and Rural Development discuss:
How biodiversity is currently integrated into the Common Agricultural Policy
Which CAP instruments can support biodiversity on farms
Which economic and political obstacles remain
And what should change in the future?
About BioMonitor4CAP
BioMonitor4CAP is developing simple and advanced biodiversity monitoring systems for agricultural landscapes. The project combines classical biodiversity indicators with new technological approaches to provide knowledge, methods and tools that can support farmers, policymakers and the interested public in the transformation of agricultural systems.
The project brings together 24 partners from 10 European countries and Peru and runs from 1 December 2022 to 31 May 2027. BioMonitor4CAP is funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme under grant agreement No. 101081964.
