Robyn Fennig is a handler who has played for college, club, professional, and national teams during her 14-year career. At the club level, Robyn has played for Minneapolis Drag N’ Thrust, Alpha Cobra Squadron, Midwest RevoLOUtion, Madison Heist, DC Scandal, and Yaka (out of France). She played for Madison Heist from 2012 to 2018 making the national championships every year of her tenure there with their best finish being 7th in 2016. Robyn won two French national championships with YAKA and a bronze medal at European Ultimate Club Finals. Her club career has come with many awards including Ultiworld’s 2013 and 2014 Women’s club division 2nd team, 2018 1stteam all club and female offensive POTY, and was named 2019 club women’s POTY and 1st team all club.

She played her college career with University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire Sol being named a 3-time all-region player, and with University of Iowa Saucy Nancy where she was named 1st team all-region and Callahan runner-up, finishing 5th at the USA ultimate college championships. On the world’s stage, Robyn won a gold medal with Drag N’ Thurst at the 2014 WUCC, a gold medal at the 2016 WUGC with the mixed team, a 2017 beach world’s title with the women’s masters team, and she played with Yaka at the 2018 WUCC.

In this interview, Robyn shares what led her to start ultimate, and her experiences as an elite level club player and as the president of the USA Ultimate Board of Directors. We learn about what led Robyn to play for Scandal in 2019, and we discuss what has contributed to the growth and parity in the women’s club game.
