From being founded as the school to educate Florida's colored students in 1887, to being placed on the land of a former plantation, to fighting to keep the university from merging into a PWI, FAMU have proven over and over again that just like those rattle snakes that roamed the hills of the former Highwood Plantation, there is a resilience that can be achieved by continuing to strike, and strike, and strike again.
