What was MySpace? Well, it was one of the first social media platforms on the internet to become a cultural phenomenon and almost single-handedly revolutionize the very idea of social media. We look back nostalgically on the site as being part of a bygone era before the internet was overrun with ads, political misinformation, and mindless slop. However, the reality is that MySpace was designed from the very beginning to be a sleeper agent that would shepherd in this new Internet hellscape we currently live in. And the only reason why we think of it fondly is because it gloriously failed at its mission.
