Morning Mantra: "If you can overthink the worst, why can't you overthink the best?"
Because it's easy to think of worst case scenarios. They are based on the past. Best case scenarios are future based and many people are not used to feeling hopeful so they fall back on feelings that they understand- like fear.
Let the worst case in. Don’t try to ignore it or push it away. Because what you resist, will persist. Acknowledge it, but then ask the only question that separates preparation from worry, “what action can I take? Answer that, and the worst case starts working for you. Confronting the worst case scenario also zaps much of its anxiety-inducing power.
To the brain, survival is much more important than happiness, so the brain often conjures up worst-case scenarios. So it can be prepared. The trouble is, the brain regularly gets it wrong.
So the next time you find yourself in this situation, recognize it, catch yourself, and try to replace that scenario with solutions that might result in best case scenarios.
If you’re going spend time worrying about the worst case scenario, it’s only fair to spend some time, considering the best case scenario, and also the most likely scenario.
