Oftentimes we make choices based on how we feel in the moment. I bet you can think of a few times. I know I can.
This can lead to hurt feelings, troubled relationships, and even a more difficult life.
Try to treat your feelings like visitors; understand that they come and go. Acknowledge them, try and understand them, but do not let them move in and run your life.
Learn to use your emotions (feelings) to think, but to not to let your emotions think for you. To do this you must recognize the emotional reaction you are having, and respond rather than react. See yourself as the person having the feeling rather than being the feeling. You are not angry, you are feeling angry. This separates you and gives you control over the response.
Developing emotional intelligence helps you to recognize emotions in yourself and in others, and to use this awareness to manage your thoughts and behavior accordingly.
