Michael, Gabriel, And Raphael In Scripture And Prayer

Send us Fan Mail

Fear, uncertainty, illness, a decision you do not feel ready to make, these are the moments when faith stops being abstract. We turn to Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael because Scripture shows them showing up right there: in battle, in a world-changing announcement, and on a hard road where healing takes time.

We walk through why the Catholic Church honors only these three archangels by name: Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael are the angels named in Sacred Scripture. That matters, because it keeps devotion grounded and clear. We also untangle common confusion about angels: they are spiritual creatures who serve God, they are not human souls who have become angels, and worship belongs to God alone. When we ask for angelic intercession, we are not chasing hidden knowledge, we are asking God’s faithful servants to pray with us as we trust Jesus Christ.

From there, we trace each archangel’s mission and what it means for daily prayer. Michael’s “Who is like God?” re-centers us when temptation or fear gets loud, and Revelation’s battle against the dragon becomes a source of hope rather than anxiety. Gabriel’s message to Mary in Luke highlights the heart of Christian trust: “Nothing will be impossible for God,” and Mary’s “Let it be” becomes a model for discernment. Raphael’s story in Tobit offers comfort for anyone praying for healing, worried about a loved one, or walking an unfamiliar path, reminding us that God can be at work even when help is not yet visible.
