Rustin Thompson Discusses "The Last Picture Shows" | Saving America's Small-Town Movie Theaters | The Jan Price Show

Dela

Award-winning writer, producer, and director Rustin Thompson joins The Jan Price Show All About Movies to discuss his award-winning documentary, "The Last Picture Shows."

Premiering at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, "The Last Picture Shows" follows Thompson across the American West in search of the small-town movie theaters that once served as the heart of their communities. Along the way, he visits abandoned cinemas, recently closed theaters, struggling movie houses, and the passionate people working to keep them alive.

Featuring excerpts from Peter Bogdanovich's 1971 classic "The Last Picture Show," the documentary explores the changing landscape of theatrical exhibition, the impact of streaming and industry consolidation, and why local theaters continue to bring people together through the shared experience of watching movies.

If you love independent film, classic cinema, movie history, or the theatrical experience, this conversation offers an insightful look at why these historic theaters still matter.
