From the Vault: Central State Hospital — Nashville’s Asylum of Horrors

For over a century, Nashville’s Central State Hospital stood as a grim fortress on Murfreesboro Pike, marked by barbaric treatments, fatal beatings, deadly fires, and forgotten potter’s fields holding over 1,600 bodies. Though the asylum was demolished to make way for modern industrial hubs, night-shift workers and security guards still report tripping motion sensors, disembodied whispers, and the apparition of a vintage orderly fading into dark hallways. In this classic "From the Vault" episode of Southern Ghost Stories, Allen Sircy unearths the tragic history, shocking abuses, and lingering hauntings of Tennessee’s most notorious mental hospital.
