Chris Rock on Divorce and the Oscars Slap

Chris Rock, in GQ,  discusses his divorce, stopping porn years ago, coping with personal questions in a gossipy culture, and wanting to move on from the Will Smith Oscars slap while focusing on writing, directing, and possibly returning to stand-up. Conan O’Brien addresses comedy’s role in a depressing political moment, says he avoids nightly political jokes, criticizes aspects of Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign, and calls the current climate nihilistic; Mark Maron jokes that people should protest constantly but he has potting soil and plants. The episode also mentions Bill Hader’s anxiety in a group chat with Fred Armisen, John Mulaney, and Jimmy Kimmel; previews Boston’s 30th Comics Come Home benefit with Dennis Leary and a star lineup; covers Carl’s Jr.’s steakhouse burger ads with Bert Kreischer; gives a “comedy stock market” buy on Maron; lists New York Comedy Festival picks; and cites Lou Wilson on spending $8,200 on a Joker car wrap and worries about comedy shifting to short-form internet content.
