Detective Helen Grus is a 23-year veteran of the Ottawa Police Service who joined in 2003 and spent years in the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse unit protecting children. She noticed what she believed was a sharp rise in infant deaths and pursued questions she considered part of her duty as an investigator. After a lengthy disciplinary process she received a two-year demotion yet remains on duty in the robbery unit, stating she will continue serving the community.
