Some topics are controversial and might be appropriate or inappropriate. A commencement speaker at the University of Central Florida learned this recently. He was introducing some ideas about artificial intelligence and earned a lot of boos from the graduates when he declared that artificial intelligence would be “the next industrial revolution.” Then a little later, he remarked that “only a few years ago, AI was not a factor in our lives.” This earned cheers. Obviously, there were differences of opinion. Experts described artificial intelligence as a bipolar topic with that group. When you address a topic, if you really believe that you are speaking the truth, speak up. If you are not sure whether you are speaking the truth or not, it’s best to pick another subject. Bipolar topics must be carefully selected and dealt with.
