We inherit ways of thinking without even realizing it. Culture teaches us, often subconsciously, that if you're single, you're incomplete until you find someone. If you're married, your spouse exists primarily to make you happy. If marriage gets hard, you deserve better. If singleness feels lonely, it's because you need romance to be whole.
These assumptions run so deep that we rarely question them.
