Good afternoon, I'm _ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened down 33-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 44,728 on turnover of 5-billion N-T. The market lost ground on Monday, reversing earlier gains amid concerns about a possible major pullback following recent strong showing prompted many investors to stay on the sidelines, resulting in lower turnover. Business group raises concerns over labor shortage in white paper The Taiwan-based Chinese National Federation of Industries says labor shortages are a major issue facing the country's industrial development. The warning is included in the federation's 2026 white paper. According to federation vice chairman Zhan Cheng-tien, a declining birth rate and aging population are worsening the labor shortage and the lack of workers is a pressing challenge in terms of enhancing industrial innovation (工業創新) and economic resilience. The white paper suggests the government review its policy on migrant workers by shifting from a focus on the 3-K industries -- those considered to dangerous, dirty and intense -- to one guided by actual labor shortages. The federation is also urging the government to extend the length of time industrial migrant workers can stay in Taiwan from 12 to 14 years. Donations for Kumamoto earthquake surpass NT$300 million mark And, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says donations raised by the government to help people affected by the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck Japan's Kumamoto Prefecture late last month have surpassed (超越) 300-million N-T. The designated Mega International Commercial Bank account was set up on August 1 and will continue to accept public donations until August 31. According to the foreign ministry, the government and its Japanese counterparts are still discussing how the funds will be used to assist post-disaster relief efforts after the one-month donation period ends. The government has also already donated 5-million N-T to support Japan's reconstruction efforts following the earthquake. US TREASURY SECRETARY UNVEILS 'OPERATION ECONOMIC OUTCAST' SANCTIONS CAMPAIGN AGAINST IRAN BUT HOLDS OFF ON IMMEDIATE PENALTIES US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has unveiled (公佈) a sweeping new sanctions campaign against Iran dubbed "Operation Economic Outcast" — but stopped short of imposing immediate penalties, describing the announcement as a "warning shot" to countries still doing business with Tehran. Iran's currency hit a record low on Monday as the new measures were announced, while Iran's Supreme National Security Council secretary warned that no oil would leave the Persian Gulf if the campaign is broadened. The sanctions target a network of brokers, companies and shadow-fleet vessels across several countries that transport Iranian oil and channel revenue to Iran's Revolutionary Guard. HRW Colombia Criminals Recruiting Children for Dangerous Tasks A new Human Rights Watch report says drug gangs and rebel groups in Colombia are increasingly recruiting children for dangerous tasks, including piloting drones carrying explosives. The report published Monday also highlights how the groups use social media to recruit children, especially in rural areas. The groups profit from the drug trade, extortion and illegal mining in those areas. Colombia’s Human Rights Defenders' Office says at least 1,500 children have been recruited (被招募) since 2021.
