Semantic SEO gets a lot more complicated when you're no longer optimizing one business in one city.
What happens when you have 10 locations? 50? 300?
In this episode of The Search Hustle Podcast, William Nozak continues the Semantic SEO Masterclass by breaking down the Franchise Knowledge Graph and how multi-location brands can build national authority without sacrificing local relevance.
The challenge starts with understanding the relationship between the parent brand and its individual locations.
Your corporate brand is one entity, while every franchise or branch is its own local entity. Search engines and AI need to understand that those businesses are connected while still recognizing which specific location is relevant to a customer searching in Tulsa, Dallas, Oklahoma City, or another market.
William explains why structured data becomes critical at scale.
You can't simply copy the same corporate schema onto every location page. Each branch needs unique LocalBusiness schema containing its actual address, phone number, geographic information, operating hours, and other local details. That local entity can then be connected back to the larger corporate organization through nested schema relationships.
But schema alone isn't enough.
One of the biggest mistakes franchise brands make is creating dozens or hundreds of nearly identical location pages and simply swapping out the city name.
If your Tulsa page is basically the same as your Dallas page, you're not demonstrating local expertise.
William explains why each location should contain genuinely useful information about that market, including local neighborhoods, regional weather, building codes, service areas, response times, and other information unique to the community.
The same principle applies to authority outside the website.
National PR can strengthen the parent brand, but local franchisees still need their own relationships within their communities. Sponsoring a local event, appearing in local news, joining the Chamber of Commerce, supporting a charity, or earning mentions in local publications can create important connections between the individual branch and the geographic area it serves.
For this episode's homework, William challenges multi-location businesses to audit every location page for unique local content, verify that each branch has properly structured LocalBusiness schema connected to the parent organization, and challenge location managers to earn at least one hyper-local mention within their communities.
The goal isn't to create hundreds of copies of the same corporate website.
It's to build one powerful national entity supported by dozens or hundreds of legitimate local entities.
Don't let your size confuse the algorithm. Structure your graph, localize your content, and dominate your territories.
