What happens when your SEO strategy is working, but your website traffic doesn't show it?
In this episode of The Search Hustle Podcast, William Nozak continues the Semantic SEO Masterclass by tackling one of the biggest questions facing marketers, business owners, and executives in the zero-click era:
How do you actually measure success when people don't click?
For years, SEO reporting was built around website traffic and keyword rankings. If organic sessions went up and a handful of important keywords moved higher, the campaign was considered successful.
William explains why that approach can give businesses the wrong picture in modern search.
A prospect might ask Google a question, see an AI-generated answer that references your company, learn from your expertise, and never visit your website. Two days later, that same person might search your company by name, call directly from your Google Business Profile, or visit your website through a branded search.
Traditional analytics can easily miss the influence that happened earlier in that journey.
Instead of focusing exclusively on traffic, William recommends measuring semantic momentum.
Google Search Console becomes especially important. Rather than looking only at clicks, businesses should separate branded and non-branded queries and pay attention to impressions and search intent.
As topical authority grows, your content may appear across hundreds of informational searches while branded search volume begins increasing as more people become familiar with your company.
William also discusses using Ahrefs to look beyond traditional rankings and backlinks.
Are your pages appearing in AI-powered search features? Are you winning People Also Ask results? Are your videos appearing in search carousels? Is your company being mentioned by industry publications, local news outlets, and other trusted websites even when those mentions don't contain a backlink?
Those signals can help reveal whether your entity footprint is actually expanding.
But eventually, marketing still has to connect to revenue.
William explains how Nozak Consulting combines data from GA4, Tag Manager, Google Ads, CallRail, Search Console, and other sources to build a clearer executive view of what's happening.
For local and franchise businesses, call tracking becomes especially important because high-intent customers may call directly from a Google Business Profile or local search result without ever generating a website session.
Instead of handing leadership a massive report filled with disconnected analytics, William recommends building dashboards that put search visibility, branded search growth, phone calls, form submissions, and closed deals together.
That's how you begin making the invisible visible.
For this episode's homework, William challenges businesses to separate branded and non-branded searches in Google Search Console, establish alerts for brand and executive mentions, and audit call tracking to make sure phone leads from local search aren't disappearing from attribution.
In a zero-click world, traffic alone doesn't tell the entire story.
Stop measuring what used to work. Start measuring what actually drives revenue.
