Phillip Jablonski had a difficult childhood. A lot of people do. But they don't grow up to take the lives of others. His father was an abusive alcoholic and it appears Phil blamed his mother for not protecting him as is borne out when he tries to strangle her with his shoe laces during a prison family visit.

Jablonski knows who he is and records himself lying in wait for victims in public areas. The audio tapes are chilling with his matter of fact running commentary of what he is looking for and what he will do to his victims.
