The boom in Chinese-made cars continues, with one dealer receiving their largest shipment to date. New passenger vehicle registrations rose more than 14% year on year in July. It's driven by strong growth from Chinese manufacturers BYD and Chery – both rising more than 140%. BYD New Zealand General Manager Warren Wilmot told Mike Hosking the fuel crisis is turning people towards electric vehicles. He says in the 70s fuel crisis people shifted away from big American cars to Japanese ones – a similar shift is happening now towards electric models.
