The second novel in Ian Fleming's series, following Casino Royale, Live and Let Die sees James Bond travel to New York, Florida, and finally Jamaica to take down the gangster and SMERSH agent Mr. Big. Using smuggled 17th-century gold coins from a pirate treasure hoard, Mr. Big launders the proceeds through his Harlem-based criminal empire, funneling the money back to SMERSH to fund Soviet operations. Teaming up once again with his old friend Felix Leiter (now with the CIA), and aided by Mr. Big's reluctant mistress and fortune-teller Solitaire—who defects to Bond's side—007 sets out to dismantle another arm of the deadly Soviet spy network.
