The New Orleans Saints’ revamped run defense faces an immediate stress test against the Detroit Lions and Baltimore Ravens. Detroit ranked fifth in outside-zone usage last season but averaged 6.08 yards per carry on man scheme runs, creating a critical matchup for Brandon Staley’s defense. Chase Young, Anfernee Jennings, Tyree Wilson, and the Saints’ deeper edge-rusher group must contain Jahmyr Gibbs ground attack and keep Detroit’s explosive passing game from taking over.
New Orleans also has intriguing offensive depth. Cedric Tillman brings size, speed, and experience with option routes to a wide receiver room featuring Chris Olave, Devaughn Vele, Bryce Lance, and Barion Brown, while Jordyn Tyson awaits his return from injured reserve. At tight end, Juwan Johnson and Noah Fant could make two-tight-end formations a major part of Kellen Moore’s offense, with Oscar Delp and Treyton Welch adding more possibilities.
