On September 18, 2026, Jehovah’s Witnesses announced that each Witness can personally decide whether to accept the four main components of donor blood. Their position against whole blood transfusions remains unchanged.
So what changed—and what about the people who followed the old rule?
In this video, I look at the Governing Body’s announcement alongside its earlier guidance about a patient’s own blood. I also share a conversation a friend had with his uncle after the update and draw on my experience as a former elder to ask what happens to people who faced consequences under a teaching that has now changed.
