It's Christmas in July here on the podcast, and we're back discussing that most eternal of all holiday classics: Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. More specifically, we're taking a look at the 1979 made-for-TV movie An American Christmas Carol.
This adaptation transposes the story into 1930s New England, where the town miser is Benedict Slade, played by Henry Winkler. The film first aired in December of 1979, in the middle of Happy Days' seventh season, which explains why roughly half of the film takes place during the "Christmas Past" sequence. Winkler was not about to put on the old man makeup any longer than he had to!
