Parents have it rough sometimes. The struggle is real. We want to give our kids everything. The newest shoes. The latest gadget. The experience everyone else is posting about. We work extra shifts, stretch the budget, and say yes to one more thing—all because we want them to have what matters. But here's what we don't say out loud enough: the one thing only you can give them, you already have. It's you. Your presence. The gift that keeps on giving.

A lot of times, we convince ourselves that if we just buy this or get that, our kids will know they're loved. And materially, maybe they'll have plenty. Closets full. Shelves full. Screens full.

But ask any kid, years down the road, what they remember most — it's rarely the toy. It's the tickle fights on the living room floor. It's the car ride where you turned the radio down because they finally started talking. It's the way you showed up to the game even when you were exhausted.

What kids really want is the heart of their parent. Not the trending thing. Not the thing that lit up their eyes for a week and then got forgotten in a drawer. They want you — showing up in their world, giving your time and your energy to conversations, playful interactions, creative excursions, and yes, a little snuggle time.

Hugs go a long way in today's world. Don't underestimate what your arms around your child can heal.

The Scroll and the Silence

Here's where it gets uncomfortable. We tend to scroll and numb out on what's easy. It's easier to hand over a tablet than to sit through the fortieth "watch me!" of the day. It's easier to answer one more work email than to answer the question your child has been working up the courage to ask you all afternoon.

Why do you think there are more dinners eaten in cars or at restaurants than around the table at home? Everyone is so busy — especially us as parents — that no one has carved out time for real relationship. We're feeding bodies and starving hearts.

This isn't a guilt trip. It's an invitation. A movement, even, to get in tune with your children on a heart-to-heart level. To stop caring so much about the stuff, and commit your heart instead.

As I always say, one step at a time leads to miles of greatness. You don't have to overhaul your whole family life tonight. You just have to take the next small step toward presence.

The K.I.S.S. ~ Be present!

As you know, this is July. So why not begin celebrating the holidays early?

Christmas in July

Think of this as Christmas in July. What if, instead of wrapping up another gift, you wrapped up your heart to give to your children?

No bow required. No receipt needed. Just you, fully there.

3 Things You Can Do to Be Present With Your Children

1. Put the phone down and get on their level. Not for a whole day. Just for the next ten minutes. Get down on the floor, look them in the eyes, and let them lead the conversation or the play. Kids know the difference between a parent who's in the room and a parent who's in the moment.

2. Bring back the table. Even one meal a week, eaten at home, at the table, no screens. Ask questions. Let the conversation wander. This is where kids learn they're safe to talk, and where you learn who they're becoming.

3. Give the hug before they ask for it. Don't wait for them to need it. Offer it. A hug at the door, a squeeze before bed, an arm around the shoulder after a hard day — these small physical moments of connection tell your child, without a single word, you matter to me.

The Gift That Never Runs Out

Toys break. Trends fade. Screens go dark. But your presence? That's the gift that keeps on giving, long after the wrapping paper is in the trash.

This Christmas in July, give your children the one gift that never goes out of style — you.

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"
