Technical Analysis: Steve Barton Shows the Price Action Signals That Warn of Market Tops

Dela

I'm Steve Barton, host of In It to Win It, and in this solo technical-analysis lesson I break down how to read price action using line charts, bar charts, and candlestick charts, and how those different chart styles can help identify potential market reversals, cycle highs, and cycle lows.

 Technical Analysis Series

In this episode, I explain what each chart type tells us and why I personally prefer bar charts for analyzing open, high, low, and close data. Using URNM as the primary example, I show how bars and candles contain the same price information, how candle colors identify whether price closed above or below the open, and why line charts are more useful for long-term direction or overlaying one asset against another.

I then move into the price-action signals I use to spot potential reversals, including bullish hammers, topping tails, and doji candles. We examine URNM and uranium, including a divergence where spot uranium moved higher while uranium equities moved lower, which I view as a potential catch-up opportunity. I also show how increasing volatility and volume can warn that a cycle top is forming. Silver provides another example, including a move from roughly $106 to $121 in one session, while gold produced a $500 intraday swing and then fell more than 11% the following day. These examples show why price action can provide important warning signs before major market reversals.

Key Insights In This Episode

✅ Line, bar, and candlestick charts display price differently, but bars and candles contain the same open, high, low, and close information.

✅ Bullish hammers with the open and close near the top of the range can signal potential upside reversals.

✅ Topping tails with the open and close near the bottom of the range can warn of a potential market top.

✅ Rising volatility and increasing trading volume can provide advance warning that a cycle high is developing.

✅ Spot uranium rising while uranium equities fall creates a divergence that may lead to a catch-up move in miners.

✅ Doji candles helped warn of major reversals in silver and gold after unusually large intraday price swings.
