Frida Kahlo transformed physical pain, political conviction and emotional turmoil into some of the most recognisable paintings of the twentieth century. After a devastating bus crash ended her hopes of studying medicine, she taught herself to paint while confined to bed. Her turbulent marriage to Diego Rivera, numerous operations, miscarriages and fierce attachment to Mexican identity all found expression in her art. This episode follows Kahlo from her childhood in the Casa Azul and emergence among Mexico's revolutionary artists to her final exhibition, declining health and extraordinary posthumous legacy.
