NACCHO's Podcast from Washington: TFAH Presents Healthy Aging Resources for Local Health Departments

Dela

This month's podcast from the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) includes an update on multiple nominations for key federal health posts and a discussion about the Kay Hagan Tick Reauthorization Act.

Later in the program (7:02), Megan Wolfe, Senior Policy Development Manager, who leads the Age-Friendly Public Health Systems team at the Trust for America's Health (TFAH), joins the podcast to discuss TFAH's work with state and local departments to champion healthy aging as a core public health function.

Local health departments across the country are actively supporting older adult health by conducting emergency preparedness planning, by implementing nutrition and physical activity programs, and by listening to and integrating older adults into the community health assessment process.

TFAH offers an Age-Friendly Public Health Systems Recognition Program that is open to all local health departments and practitioners to celebrate healthy aging work. About 140 local health departments across 30 states have earned the Age-Friendly Public Health Systems recognition.

TFAH also created a new toolkit that provides strategies and guidance for effective multisector collaboration across the age-friendly ecosystem. The toolkit is available on the Age-Friendly Public Health Systems website at AFPHS.org.
