Newsround with Dave Davis | Liverpool's Fenerbahçe Disaster, Iraola's Mistakes and Senior Stars Under Fire
Part 1
Dave Davis returns with a passionate edition of Newsround on Anfield Index, reacting to Liverpool's disappointing 3–2 Champions League defeat against Fenerbahçe in Istanbul.
Despite taking the lead twice, Liverpool suffered another damaging defeat against a Fenerbahçe side that had gone ten Champions League matches without a victory.
Dave pulls no punches in his assessment, describing Liverpool's performance as pathetic and questioning the standards being set by several senior players.
Andoni Iraola's selection decisions come under scrutiny, particularly his decision to start Bradley Barcola through the middle and his continued rotation of an already vulnerable Liverpool side.
Attention then turns to Liverpool's defensive collapse, with Alisson Becker, Jeremy Jacquet, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai all facing criticism for their involvement in the three goals conceded.
Dave also examines Iraola's post-match comments, questions whether Liverpool's players are too comfortable with making costly mistakes and demands a stronger response from the dressing room.
However, there were two significant positives in Istanbul.
Trey Nyoni delivered another outstanding midfield performance, completing 89 passes at 93% accuracy, registering 19 line-breaking passes and making nine ball recoveries.
Rio Ngumoha also impressed, completing seven dribbles and winning 12 duels as Liverpool's young talents outperformed several established stars.
Dave discusses Jamie Carragher's criticism of Liverpool's expensive squad and questions why the club's youngsters are being asked to carry so much responsibility.
There's also a particularly strong assessment of Szoboszlai's performance, with Dave questioning his positioning, defensive concentration and overall contribution.
Can Iraola address Liverpool's problems before they become even more damaging?
All this and more on Newsround with Dave Davis, exclusively on Anfield Index.
