In interviews, he’s made it clear that he’s moved from wanting to believe in the existence of ETIs (Extra-Terrestrial Intelligences) when he directed Close Encounters of the Third Kind and ET: The Extra-Terrestrial to actually believing. It appears his new film is intended to convince the rest of us.
