The authorities have destroyed the money, and left you on your own to deal with the consequences. Doing something about this involves (1) learning about what happened and trying to educate the general public, and (2) actually doing something to keep your savings from losing its purchasing power any further, and indeed gaining it back.

Most people in our world are content to do (1).
