Jesus borrowed Peter's boat to teach the crowds, and after preaching, He instructed Peter to launch into deep water and let down his nets. Everything Peter knew as an experienced fisherman—and all the data from that night's failed efforts—told him it was pointless. They had fished all night, caught nothing, and were already cleaning their nets to go home. From a natural perspective, Jesus was a carpenter, not a fisherman, and His instruction contradicted both experience and expertise. Yet Peter chose obedience over evidence, saying, "Nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net." His obedience produced a miraculous catch that exceeded every expectation. This example teaches that while data and past experiences can inform us, they should never have the final authority over God's word. When God speaks, His direction can override what history, logic, or statistics say is possible, calling us to trust His voice above the limitations of the data.
