Over the last few years, theranostics has been a major part of nuclear medicine — and prostate cancer is the most visible example.
Since PSMA PET first emerged as a diagnostic tool, it has gained wide clinical acceptance, while PSMA-targeted radioligand therapy has developed rapidly alongside it. Today, PSMA PET sits at the centre of a true theranostic paradigm, guiding both patient selection and treatment.
And the journey is just beginning. In this episode, together with two outstanding experts — Prof. Karolien Goffin and Prof. Declan Murphy — we explore where the field truly stands, what clinical trials and real-world practice have taught us, and what challenges and opportunities lie ahead.
About our guests
Declan Murphy is Consultant Urologist and Director of Genito-Urinary (GU) Oncology at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, and Clinical Professor at the University of Melbourne.
Declan is an internationally recognised key opinion leader in GU Oncology, prostate cancer in particular, and has many hundreds of peer-review publications to his name. He specialises full-time in prostate cancer and is a high-volume radical prostatectomist.
He is Associate Editor of European Urology and has editorial experience with many other top journals. He co-hosts the top-rated GU Cast podcast and the European Urology Podcast.
Prof. Dr. Karolien Goffin is staff member of nuclear medicine at the University Hospital Leuven and associate professor at KU Leuven, Leuven, Belgium. She is part of the multidisciplinary teams dealing with uro-oncology, functional urology, neuro-oncology and epilepsy.
Her main research interests are preclinical development of diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, the application of existing oncological PET tracers in a broad range of malignancies and clinical settings and the introduction of novel PET tracers and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals in (uro-)oncology, with a specific focus on prostate cancer.
Prof. Goffin is board member of the Belgian Multidisciplinary meeting on Urological Cancers (BMUC) and member of the Imaging Group of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). She is chair of the Oncology and Theranostics Committee of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) and member of the editorial board of the European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (EJNMMI), Journal of Nuclear Medicine (JNM), the EANM Journal, and of Cancers.
