Tonight, four little toy friends are not quite ready to rest.

A tired toy car is worried that someone might step on him. A little block under the chair cannot find where he belongs. A blue marker has lost his cap, and a storybook is still open, trying to tell just one more story.

Can your child help each one settle down?

From the comfort of bed, your child can follow the narration and imagine each gentle action: placing the car safely on the shelf, returning the block to its basket, finding the marker’s missing cap, and closing the storybook so its words can rest.

As each little friend becomes safe and still, the room gradually grows quieter—and your child’s attention begins to gather inward too.

ABOUT GOODNIGHT PLANET

As a kindergarten teacher, I have always been fascinated by the half hour before a child falls asleep.

I do not think bedtime should feel like a switch, suddenly turning a lively child from awake to asleep. At its best, the bedtime half hour feels more like a bridge.

On one side is a busy body, an active mind, and perhaps a few feelings that have not yet found somewhere to land.

On the other side is a child returning to their own small inner universe—growing quieter, noticing how they feel, and becoming ready to rest with a sense of happiness or accomplishment.

That is why I created the first Goodnight Planet story collection: a series in which the child becomes the one who helps the world settle down.

Every story begins by accepting that the child may not feel sleepy yet. Instead of immediately asking them to be still or close their eyes, the story gives them a few small bedtime missions.

Guided by the narration, children notice what a little friend needs, imagine a gentle action, and discover what changes after they help. As the toys, rooms, animals, and familiar places in the story become settled, children are gradually invited to gather their own thoughts and become ready for rest.

Everything your child helps in these stories comes from ordinary life: a toy car on the floor, a block under a chair, a marker without its cap, a storybook left open, or another familiar object they may see every day.

Goodnight Planet does not ask children to leave their everyday world behind. It invites them to return to it with fresh attention—to notice familiar things from a new perspective and discover that even the smallest acts of care can make something feel safer, calmer, or more complete.

The stories are quiet, but never passive. Each one offers children something to notice, something meaningful to do, and a gentle sense of completion to carry toward sleep.

Story themes: Kindness, Safety, Belonging, Caring for Familiar Things, Body Awareness, Bedtime Routines.

Children can participate entirely through imagination while resting safely in bed.

Recommended for children ages 2–8 and their grown-ups at bedtime.
