This is The 1905 Changeling Incident at Adventfjorden Coal Station, Spitsbergen by Sascha Schmidt, a mythical creature horror story for sleep. In 1905, during the polar night at a remote Arctic coal station, a corrupt colonial administrator discovers that the infants in the nursery wing are not infants. They are biological substitutions—identical, physically wrong, with adult tracking eyes and natal teeth—drinking the station's milk supply dry. When he cross-references decades of ledgers, he uncovers a pattern of shallow permafrost burials beneath the hospital foundation, disturbed by recent construction, releasing something that folklore called changelings and his classified protocols call an outbreak.

Ice-locked and alone, he seals the mothers and the anomalous infants inside the nursery wing and attempts starvation. The entities do not wither. They intensify. As the mothers collapse and the infants' eyes track him with deliberate, evaluating intelligence, he realizes the old methods have failed. The recovered field notes describe his escalation to a final containment method using glacial meltwater and the mine's drainage system—a decision that will freeze the wing solid but will not kill what waits inside the ice.

Written by Sascha Schmidt, based on the lore of Beasts of the Ancient World, and narrated by the synthetic voice of Henry Atkinson.
