In this episode, Matt & Corisande sit down with Kelly Gilbert, the former British Vogue beauty and health editor turned founder of The What Supp Co, to unpack a story that goes from finding out she was pregnant while sitting her A-levels at 18, to talking her way onto a fashion course with her baby in a pushchair, to becoming one of the most trusted beauty editors in the country, entirely on her own terms.
They get into the night Kelly watched someone else pitch her own business idea to the Dragons on Dragon's Den, the “override” state that took over in the weeks that followed and pushed her to finally build The What Supp Co, and how a cold email and a lot of tenacity got her products onto shelves in Boots less than two years after launch.
Matt & Corisande, with Kelly Gilbert, discuss:
How Kelly talked her way onto a fashion course with her baby in a pushchair after missing the application deadline
The fax machine “ransom note” and the blue CV that got her hired first in PR, then at British Vogue
Watching someone else pitch her own business idea on Dragon's Den, and the “why can't I ever see anything through” spiral that followed
The mystical “override” state Kelly describes taking over her actions for weeks after she first got in touch with Matt
How The What Supp Co's vitamin patches actually work, and why she designed them to be seen rather than hidden
Getting Protect Your Energy into Boots less than two years after launching, and the manifestation behind landing a meeting with Sephora's global VP
