INTERVIEW: Pistons' Daniss Jenkins turned opportunity into 'American Dream' but won't lose his drive

Daniss Jenkins was one of the best stories in the NBA last season.

The undrafted free agent turned his opportunity with the Pistons into a standard, two-year contract with Detroit. The 25-year-old guard didn't spend the offseason soaking in the spotlight. Quite the opposite. He made sure his drive keeps growing.

"You know people are happy for me and rooting for me, because it's like an American Dream, it's like the underdog story," he said. "But at the same time, I try not to get too caught up into it, because if it's the other way around and you're not doing so well, if you're still feeding off of that, what do you have to feed off of?"

Jenkins walks into the Pistons 2026-27 season knowing he belongs. The contract says as much. But he wants more – for himself and the Pistons.

"I shot out of a cannon. Then I had some ups and downs, but I'm always going to look at it head-on, and try to put my best foot forward."
