It wasn’t long ago that we’d joke about how an appearance on Toronto Mike’d would help you live forever. FOTMs didn’t die. Then one did, it was Andrew Krystal, and then over the next few years we’d lose another and another, but this past couple of weeks has been awful.

First we lost David Marsden, then Sass Jordan, and now Larry Millson. Larry visited me twice, once solo to talk about his visits to Maple Leaf Stadium, his years at the Hamilton Spectator, Toronto Star, Toronto Telegram and Globe & Mail, and the many Blue Jays teams he covered, then he returned to join Bob Elliott and Dave Perkins so all three could regale me with Blue Jays tales of yesteryear.

Larry lived by Christie Pits, and he loved to photograph the Toronto Maple Leafs, so I’d even see him there and we’d chat about the current Jays. Larry was a gentle soul who covered more Blue Jays games than anyone else. So he had stories, and was more than happy to share them.

My condolences to all who knew and loved Larry Millson. They don’t make them like that anymore. Here’s an extended excerpt from his first appearance on Toronto Mike’d, recorded on April 3rd, 2023.
