April 8th, 2006. Hewitt, Texas. Shortly after midnight, Pastor Matt Baker called 911 to report finding his wife unresponsive after he returned home from running errands. A justice of the peace declared Kari’s death a suicide caused by an overdose of sleeping pills combined with alcohol. Kari’s family initially accepted this ruling, but they later became suspicious of Matt and launched their own investigation.
