Marvel just revealed its next Disney+ series, Nicolas Cage is calling out Amazon over AI, and Hulu is finally reopening The X-Files. This week on The Nerdpocalypse, we dig into the biggest news out of New York Comic Con and the rest of the week in nerd news . We start by checking out A24's Onslaught, Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett's R-rated sci-fi action throwback starring Adria Arjona, which arrived on digital earlier this month after a quiet run in theaters.
Then it's the news. Marvel Television announced Zodiac at NYCC, a new live-action spy thriller headed to Disney+ in 2028. Universal gave us our first look at Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler as Tubbs and Crockett in Miami Vice '85, now in production for a May 2028 release. HBO is bringing back Girls for a five-episode limited run with Lena Dunham and most of the original cast. And Nicolas Cage told the NYCC crowd that he refused to sign an AI waiver on Spider-Noir and will probably not work with Amazon again, a story we unpack alongside Variety's report on how Hollywood is warming up to AI tools.
We also talk about Hulu's series order for Ryan Coogler's The X-Files reboot, starring Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel, and the first trailer for The Daily Wire's Confession, a Ben Shapiro-written drama starring Rob Lowe and James Franco.
Finally, we run through this week's trailers: Nocturne on October 30, 12 12 12 on November 13, and Blade Runner 2099 on November 25.
