Season 17, Episode 37 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers' 26-19 road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday to move to 4-2 on the season.
Alex and I discuss the team's health coming out of its sixth regular-season game and that includes the team losing two CB Brandin Echols (hamstring) during its Sunday contest. We go over Steelers HC Mike McCarthy having to work through an injury on Sunday as well.
After covering the Monday morning NFL news that relates to Indianapolis Colts GM Chris Ballard and Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, Alex and I go over the Saturday transactions that the Steelers made. That includes us discussing WR Roman Wilson being placed on the team's Reserve/Injured list. We also discuss the seven inactive players on the Steelers' Sunday list and how none of them were a surprise.
After going over a wide-angle look at the Steelers' Sunday overtime win, Alex and I then focus on the play on the offensive side of the football against the Buccaneers. We discuss wide receivers Germie Bernard and DK Metcalf coming alive with big plays starting in the fourth quarter and then into overtime. We discuss RB Jaylen Warren doing his part in the Sunday win and how QB Aaron Rodgers played better after the first three quarters.
The Buccaneers blitzed Rodgers quite a bit on Sunday, so Alex and I discuss that. We also talk about the Steelers’ offense failing to register an explosive play of 20 yards or longer on Sunday and how Rodgers ultimately posted an ANY/A stat in Tampa of just over 3.0. Alex and I also dip into the play of the Steelers offensive line in Tampa and how it was very uneven overall.
After discussing the Steelers' offense, Alex and I go over the defensive play against the Buccaneers’ offense. We point out the job the defense did against the Buccaneers running backs. We also discuss the Buccaneers making big plays on third and fourth downs that almost allowed them to win the game. Also discussed in this show is the play of Buccaneers rookie QB Jalon Daniels and how it seemingly dropped off as the game went on.
Overall, the Steelers' defense did enough to help the team win on Sunday. We go over how CB Jalen Ramsey and CB Jamel Dean each played a big part in the win.
The Steelers' special teams play against the Buccaneers wasn’t anything to really write home about outside of what K Chris Boswell and P Cameron Johnston did. Alex and I discuss the good, bad and ugly from Sunday’s game when it comes to that phase of the team.
McCarthy did exercise the greatest clock management late in Sunday's game, so Alex and I recap that topic throughout this show.
Will the Steelers add another wide receiver via a trade or free agency prior to Week 9? Alex and I address that question during this show.
This 94-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above and we end this show by answering several emails we received from listeners.
