In 2002, I was assigned a story for Seventeen Magazine about the popularity of the Christian rock scene. They sent me to New Hampshire to attend the Inside Out Soul Festival. The photographer assigned to the story was a young woman named Elizabeth Lippman. Along with her photography assistant, we drove from NYC to Loon Mountain in New Hampshire for a very intense few days where we interviewed a ton of young attendees along with a ton of music acts including a young Katy Perry who at that time performed as Katy Hudson. Elizabeth and I lost touch but I'd see her name from time to time—she went on to shoot a regular column for the New York Times. A few years ago we reconnected. She was now living in LA. I demanded she come on the show so we could properly catch up! We discussed press plates, her experience photographing Trump and other celebrities, being an early Atkins adopter, the Nicki Hilton kerfuffle, growing up the daughter of journalist parents (she was born in Cairo), moving to LA, the difference between directing and photography, learning she was BRCA positive, parenthood, being a reluctant stage mom and so much more. Plus we did a round of JMOE, HGFY and our new words segment.
