Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has resigned, with Deputy Premier Ben Carroll taking over as the state's new premier. Although Allan had vowed to fight any challenge to her leadership, she announced on Tuesday morning that she would step aside, just before a Labor party room meeting where she was expected to face a leadership spill."The most important thing I want to say today is thank you," Allan said as she confirmed her resignation.
