In Matthew 9:18–38, Jesus displays His authority, compassion, and mercy as He raises a girl from the dead, heals a suffering woman, restores sight to two blind men, and frees a demon-oppressed man. Each miracle points beyond physical healing to Jesus as the promised King and Savior who sees people in their helplessness and brings true hope and redemption. Seeing the crowds "like sheep without a shepherd," Jesus calls His disciples to pray for laborers for the plentiful harvest. That same mission extends to every follower of Christ through the Great Commission: though believers have different gifts and roles, all are called to use their lives—going, giving, praying, serving, and making disciples—for the shared purpose of making Jesus known. The cost of this mission is worth it because Jesus is worth it, and its ultimate end is the worship of Christ by people from every nation, tribe, people, and language.
