Parts of the Grey District in the South Island were flooded in an overnight thunderstorm. Fire and Emergency crews responded to about half-a-dozen homes in Greymouth, Cobden, Brunner and Runanga. The flooding also forced the closure of State Highway 7 between Greymouth and Stillwater. Grey District Mayor Tania Gibson spoke to John Campbell.
