Eps 7: The Invisible Rulebook of Motherhood with Becky Selbie

Dela

This week on Heidi at Home, I'm joined by therapist and maternal mental health specialist Becky Selbie for a conversation that I think every mother needs to hear.

Together, we explore the invisible "rulebook" so many of us are living by without even realising it. The unwritten expectations that tell us a good mum should always be patient, never lose her temper, enjoy every moment, keep the house tidy, succeed at work, and somehow hold everything together.

We talk about why so many mothers are struggling with perfectionism, guilt, overwhelm, burnout and the mental load, and why these aren't personal failings but often symptoms of trying to live up to impossible standards we never consciously chose.

Becky shares why modern motherhood feels so hard, how these invisible rules shape the way we think, and, most importantly, how we can begin to challenge them with more compassion, awareness and self-understanding.

If you've ever felt like you're constantly falling short, this episode will leave you feeling seen, understood, and with a completely different perspective on why motherhood can feel so overwhelming.
