Fighting for My Children Cost Me Everything: Addiction, Arson and a Christmas Rescue.

At 17, Marissa survived a rollover wreck that took three fingers — and left her with a bottle of OxyContin and morphine. No one warned her about withdrawal.

What followed was pills to cocaine to meth to heroin, losing her five children, surviving an arson that trapped 13 people inside, and jail. This is her first-person account of how fast addiction escalates — and what it took to fight back.

Pregnant and living in a Seattle drug hotel, she locked herself in a room and quit cold turkey. Years later, after 4 months sober in jail, she walked into the crisis center with nowhere else to go. Since then: 400+ hours of community service, bought her own car, got her license back after 13 years, landed a front-desk job, and is now on tier 3 of 5 to bring her youngest son home full-time.

Hosted by Betty Frizzell and Kristine Moreland, this conversation covers the fentanyl crisis, accountability vs. enablement, what actually helps women in jail, and Marissa's message: to heal you have to feel.

If you or someone you love is struggling on the street or in jail, message Injustice Unspoken — we will connect you with people like Marissa who can help.
