The TRUTH About Vomit! | The Emetophobia Questions You REALLY Want Answered | Ep. 24

Dela

Does emetophobia ever actually get easier? What's the best exposure for the fear of vomiting? And how the heck are we supposed to ACCEPT throwing up when we absolutely do not want to?!

You asked, and we're answering. 😂

In this episode, we're diving into real questions submitted by our TikTok community about emetophobia recovery, OCD, exposures, safety behaviors, parenting, and the never-ending desire to prevent or prepare for vomiting.

We're talking about where to start when you want to recover, which exposures made the biggest difference for us, and how to support a child with emetophobia without accidentally feeding their fear through reassurance.

We also tackle some of the harder questions:

Does it actually get easier, or will I always feel this way?

How do I accept something I desperately wish didn't exist?

What if I feel like I'm going to throw up and can't make it to the bathroom?

And is taking anxiety medication to survive stomach bug season helpful, or could it become another way of trying to escape uncertainty?

Katie shares a huge personal recovery win involving her sick daughter, her nice couch, and the complete absence of the bucket-and-towel emergency preparations that used to take over her life. We also talk about why recovery can still feel hard even when you've made tremendous progress.

And because this is us, things get weird. 😂 Katie is recording with a pretty terrible stomachache, Ally shares some of her favorite exposures, and somehow we end up talking about questionable sandwiches, Parmesan cheese, tonsil stones, and throwing up on the floor.

But underneath all the laughs is a message we keep coming back to:

You don't have to like vomiting to accept that it's a possibility.

You don't have to solve every future emergency before it happens.

And you don't have to organize your entire life around preventing something you can't completely control.

Recovery isn't about guaranteeing you'll never throw up.

It's about learning that you can handle hard things—even when you don't know what's coming.
